Apple’s last launch event of the year at Wonderlust last month doesn’t mean it’s the end of new Apple product launches for 2023. Last year Apple quietly rolled out two new products without doing events in October, and it’s rumored that for This year it will be the same.
Sources reputable for accuracy suggest that Apple will release a new Mac this month. And if it’s an iMac, many of us think it’s about time.
The MacRumors source suggested that Apple will begin accepting new models for its Mac trade-in plan later this month. Based on the pattern seen in the past, that would suggest new Macs are on the way. Apple last changed the devices eligible for trade-in in June, which coincided with the launch of the 15-inch MacBook Air.
MacRumors has been aware of many of its rumors in the past and emphasized that they come from a reliable source. A new Mac is expected in mid-October, that is, in the next two weeks. There’s no way to be sure what type of device that would be, but we’ve already seen new MacBook Pros and a new MacBook Air launch this year, so an iMac would seem like the most likely candidate.
The colorful and super slim iMac 24 with M1 chip, which launched in May 2021 is the only Apple iMac left, so it’s about time for an upgrade with the newer M2 chip, or even the M3 chip.
What’s more, if the forecasts are accurate, there is no guarantee that Apple will follow through with a new computer this month, it could be as many as two new computers. Considering that the M1 MacBook Air and MacBook Pro 13 were released in November 2020 and the M2 models in June 2022, it would seem a little early to expect M3 laptops.
According to MacRumors the changes are more modest than those made in June. That suggests we’re more likely to see just one new product. We’ve also heard that an M3 Mac mini is on the way, but it’s not expected until next year. Some observers like Matt Talks Tech have claimed that Apple will jump straight to the M3 chip with the iMac, skipping an M2 version.
This move would supposedly offer increases of up to 50 percent in CPU performance and 70 percent in GPU performance. The fact that we haven’t heard many rumors could suggest that a 2023 iMac will be a largely iterative evolution, with a more powerful chip but few changes in terms of design or display. We’d also expect the price to stay in line with the current iMac 24, starting at around $1,299, but Apple still has the ability to surprise us.
