Various sources indicate that Apple will not only present the iPhone 16 on that date, but also other products. According to Mark Gurman, a Bloomberg analyst, the company will also unveil the Apple Watch Series 10 and AirPods 4 at the same event. These devices could be available in stores starting September 20, and it’s possible that iOS 18 and macOS Sequoia will be released shortly before that date.
Although Apple has not officially announced any event, it is expected to send out press invitations starting next week.
The iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max are likely to be the main highlights of the launch event. Rumors suggest that these models will feature larger screens, measuring 6.3 and 6.9 inches, respectively, along with faster A18 chips that will improve integration with Apple Intelligence, and a 48-megapixel ultra-wide camera. Additionally, a new capacitive image capture button might be included.
The standard iPhone 16 would be a more modest upgrade but with some notable improvements. It would feature the A18 chip, the action button first introduced with the iPhone 15 Pro, and a vertical camera design that would integrate better with Vision Pro. Although it would retain a 12 MP ultra-wide camera, these updates could represent a significant upgrade for those with older models.
As for the Apple Watch Series 10, it’s expected to be a more significant update if the rumors are true. Apple could equip this model with larger screens in thinner cases, along with a faster chip. There’s also talk of a new Apple Watch SE aimed at budget-conscious users, although it’s unclear if the rumored plastic case model will be ready this year.
Meanwhile, the AirPods 4 could make some of the current Apple earphone technologies more accessible. It is expected that one of the two non-Pro models will include, for the first time, active noise cancellation. Additionally, these more affordable models would incorporate the H2 chip from the AirPods Pro 2, which could result in better sound quality and longer battery life.
It is unlikely that we will see new Macs at this event. According to Gurman, although developers have registered more Macs based on the M4 chip, they are not expected to be ready for debut until October. It is believed that Apple will introduce new versions of the MacBook Pro, iMac, and a compact Mac mini. However, updates for the MacBook Air, Mac Studio, and Mac Pro are not expected until 2025.
