MacBook, Mac Mini, and even Mac Pro will receive a new version with the M4 chip.
Are you waiting to see if your favorite Mac model will get the latest M4 chip update before buying a new computer?
Good news: whether you have a MacBook Pro, a Mac Mini, or even a Mac Pro, the M4 will soon be available for your favorite Mac.
According to a new report by Mark Gurman, an Apple expert from Bloomberg, Apple plans to implement its M4 Silicon chipset in all Mac computer models.
Since Apple launched its first M4 product earlier this year with the iPad Pro, Mac users have been speculating not only when the new and more powerful Apple chipset would arrive in their desktop or laptop Macs, but also if the M4 would be available for their preferred Mac model.
It appears that Apple skipped updating some of its Mac models, such as the Mac Mini and Mac Studio, with the M3 chip. The most recent models currently available in those Mac lines run on the M2 chip.
When will the new M4 Macs be available?
Consumers wanting to buy a new MacBook Pro, Mac Mini, or iMac will be the first to get a new Mac with the M4 chip. According to Gurman, Apple plans to release the M4 models for these Mac lines by the end of this year.
Current users of MacBook Pro, Mac Mini, or iMac who want to upgrade their models should wait if they want the latest model. Last year, Apple held an unusual event in October, just before Halloween, to launch the MacBook Pro and iMac with the M3 processor. It wouldn’t be surprising if Apple held a similar event this year to launch the first Macs with the M4 processor just before the 2024 holiday season.
Users of MacBook Air, Mac Studio, and Mac Pro will have to wait a bit longer to receive the M4 chip. These models will be updated to the M4 in 2025.
Given that the latest MacBook Air update occurred earlier this year, the release date of the M4 version makes sense. Apple launched the M3 MacBook Air line in March.
According to Gurman, Apple will focus on the benefits of the new M4 chip in its marketing for the new M4 Mac lines. Apple claims that the M4 is its most powerful neural engine to date and that it was designed to provide the necessary processing power for the company’s new artificial intelligence features.
However, Gurman adds that there is “at least one Mac model that will have more drastic changes” than the upgrade to the M4. Now that rumors about the M4 Mac launch have settled, it seems Apple fans have something new to speculate about.
