Clicks Technology, a company known for physical smartphone keyboards, has announced the launch of two new products ahead of the CES show in Las Vegas. The headline is its first-ever smartphone, the Clicks Communicator, a device featuring a physical keyboard designed as a professional companion. Alongside the phone, the company also introduced a universal slide-out keyboard with an introductory price of $79.
Aimed at users who handle a high volume of written communication—such as emails, messaging, and document editing—the Communicator adopts a form factor reminiscent of classic QWERTY keyboard phones. Priced at $499, it is positioned as a “second device” focused on productivity, intended to handle work tasks separately from a user’s primary smartphone.
A Device Centered on Communication
The Communicator does not aim to compete with conventional smartphones in entertainment or social media. Instead, it offers a simplified experience based on the Niagara launcher for Android, providing direct access to messaging and productivity apps like Gmail, WhatsApp, Telegram, and Slack.
One of its standout features is the Signal Light, a lighting button on the side that can be customized with colors and patterns to notify users of specific messages (e.g., a purple light for VIP contacts). This button also functions as a quick-access key for voice dictation or recording audio notes.
Touch-Sensitive Keyboard Technology and Design Details
The physical keyboard is not just for typing: it is touch-sensitive, allowing users to scroll through lists and web pages without touching the screen. The design also includes features appreciated by enthusiasts, such as a 3.5mm headphone jack, a physical SIM card slot, a microSD slot (expandable up to 2TB), and a physical switch for airplane mode.
The back of the device is interchangeable, allowing for customization with covers in colors like Smoke, Clover (dark green), and Onyx.
Specifications and Availability
The Communicator runs on Android 14 and promises five years of security updates. Its specifications include a 6.55-inch display, a 4,000 mAh battery, a 50 MP main camera, global 5G connectivity, and wireless charging.
An early-bird promotional price of $399 is available, reservable with a $199 deposit before February 27th. Shipments are expected to begin in late 2025.
The Power Keyboard: A Universal Accessory
The other launch is the Clicks Power Keyboard, a magnetic slide-out keyboard compatible with smartphones (via MagSafe or Qi2), tablets, and even smart TVs. Its adaptable design allows for use in portrait or landscape orientation, and it connects wirelessly. It includes a built-in 2,150 mAh battery and is customizable via a dedicated app.
Its launch price is $79 (rising to $109 later), with early orders starting January 2nd and shipments expected in spring.
A Bet on a Niche Market
Adrian Li, CEO of Clicks, noted that the company has already delivered over 100,000 keyboards worldwide, supporting its bet on devices specialized in efficient communication. “The Communicator is a natural evolution of that idea,” he stated.
With these launches, Clicks reinforces its value proposition: tangible hardware designed for users who prioritize fast typing and productivity without distractions.
