Microsoft’s AI assistant, Copilot, has been revamped with a sleeker design and enhanced new features. The tech giant aims to integrate its AI tools more into people’s daily lives, a strategy also pursued by competitors like Google.
To stand out, Microsoft has improved how users interact with Copilot, making it faster to adapt to user preferences and in more ways than before. This assistant can now be used on the web, mobile devices, and the Windows app.
Mustafa Suleyman, Microsoft’s AI director, explained that Copilot is not a static tool but a dynamic experience that evolves to provide constant support, facilitating human connections and helping users achieve their goals.
One of the most notable additions is Copilot Voice, which allows users to interact with the AI through voice commands, similar to OpenAI’s AdvancedVoice mode. You can choose from four different voices, currently available only in English, and use the Copilot Daily feature to get personalized news and weather summaries based on your location and interests, drawing from sources like Reuters and Financial Times.
Copilot has also introduced the Copilot Vision feature, allowing it to “see” what’s on your screen, whether it’s a website or a personal document, and offer suggestions or products based on your interests. While it doesn’t work on all websites, it’s a handy option for getting insights or recommendations. This feature is optional, and no data is stored without your consent.
Microsoft’s main goal is for Copilot to be seen as a helpful assistant both online and on PCs. Now, instead of appearing as a chatbot, it presents itself through interactive cards that engage users more in the experience. The new home page, Copilot Discover, adapts to your interests, offering personalized searches and suggestions based on your interactions with the AI.
An interesting upgrade is Click to Do, which places interactive commands on the screen, suggesting actions like summarizing text, modifying images, or searching for information online. Additionally, the Recover tool makes it easier to find recent files on your computer, even if you don’t remember the name or location. With Windows Search in Copilot+, you can search for files or settings by simply describing them.
