Microsoft has launched Copilot, its generative AI tool, as a chatbot on Telegram, the popular instant messaging application.
Currently in beta, Copilot for Telegram allows users to interact with the AI chatbot in a way that feels like a normal conversation with a friend. It can answer a wide range of questions, from movie recommendations to real-time information like current baseball games.
To access the bot, users need to search for the username @CopilotOfficialBot. The service is free for Telegram users and is available on both mobile devices and desktop computers. However, it requires providing a phone number.
Microsoft has integrated Copilot into several of its products, including Microsoft 365 and Teams, as well as in AI hardware devices like Copilot+ PCs. The integration of Copilot into third-party services like Telegram indicates that Microsoft intends to extend its AI chatbot to other social applications.
Other companies are also integrating AI chatbots into their messaging platforms. Meta has announced testing of Meta AI on Instagram, Messenger, and WhatsApp. Google offers Gemini, a competitor to Copilot, which allows the use of generative AI in Google Messages on Android devices. Additionally, Snapchat uses ChatGPT for its AI chatbot that responds to Snaps.
