Apple Makes Its Way to Walmart: MacBook Air on Sale for $699

A reliable laptop at an attractive price

Surprise! Apple and Walmart have teamed up to bring the MacBook Air to the retail giant’s stores for the first time. The 13.3-inch MacBook Air with M1 chip is now available on Walmart’s website and will soon be hitting select stores. You can choose from Space Gray, Silver, or Gold, and all units come with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of SSD storage.

A classic with Apple DNA

Introduced in November 2020, the MacBook Air with M1 chip was one of the first Macs to run on Apple’s own processor. It features a 13.3-inch Retina display, a battery life of up to 18 hours, and a weight of just 2.8 pounds. Its successor, the MacBook Air with M2, was announced at WWDC in June 2022.

New or used? The question remains

While the M1 Air is now over three years old and was removed from Apple’s website earlier this month with the arrival of the new M3 chip models, it’s still a great option at a price of $699.

Walmart doesn’t specify whether the version on sale is new or refurbished, but considering the one-year warranty and the possibility of extending it with AppleCare, it’s likely to be new units. Best Buy offers the same model for a slightly lower price ($649.99), but it’s an open-box unit.

A significant step for Apple’s expansion

The arrival of the MacBook Air at Walmart is a major development for the market. Walmart is the largest retailer in the United States, and adding the Mac to its catalog will expose the brand to an audience that might not have otherwise considered an Apple laptop. Additionally, it opens the door for newer Macs to eventually hit Walmart shelves in the future, further expanding its reach.
