Google’s confirmation of 1,000 laid-off employees is only between December 2023 and January 2024, and in January 2023, Google had announced that it would lay off 12,000 employees, which represents 6% of its workforce. The move was due to a combination of factors, including slowing economic growth, inflation and the war in Ukraine.

In the following months, Google carried out new rounds of layoffs. In September 2023, the company laid off about 1,000 employees from its recruiting team. In December 2023, Google laid off about 545 employees from its voice assistant division.

In total, Google has laid off more than 13,000 employees in the last 12 months. The company has assured that the layoffs have been carried out selectively and that they have focused on positions that were no longer necessary or that could be filled by other employees.

The layoffs at Google have had a significant impact on the affected employees. Many of them have lost their jobs and have had to look for new job opportunities. Others have had to reduce their salaries or take on new responsibilities.
