New Roblox Policies Aim to Safeguard Young Users from Inappropriate Content

Roblox has implemented new safety measures to restrict access for children under 13 to certain areas and content on the platform. With these actions, they aim to protect younger users from inappropriate interactions and materials, following several reports accusing Roblox of insufficient safeguards against harassment and explicit content.

The platform announced that, from now on, children under 13 will not be able to access unrated experiences or social games that include chat and options for drawing or writing without moderation. Additionally, Roblox will require creators to complete a questionnaire for their content to be considered suitable for this age, under categories of “All Ages” or “9+,” which may still include mild violence and moderate humor but exclude gambling.

These policies will take effect next year, and creators have until December 3 to comply with the requirements. The changes also include banning access to non-moderated 2D user creation games, effective from November 18. However, Roblox will allow role-playing games and activities with approved 3D elements.

These measures complement other recent restrictions, such as requiring parental permission for children under 13 to access certain chat features and for children under 9 to access content with moderated tags. The platform is also testing age verification for users over 13 through official ID.
