The new iPhone 16 lineup offers 45 W wired charging through its USB-C port, which represents a 50% increase compared to the iPhone 15 series.

China’s Quality Certification Center, a regulatory body in the country, issued a certificate confirming the enhanced charging specifications for all iPhone 16 models.

This advancement marks an important step for Apple, as last year’s iPhone 15 models reached a maximum charging speed of 20 W, while the Pro versions managed about 29 W. Although Apple still has room to compete with brands like OnePlus, which offers 80 W fast charging with its OnePlus 12, it has now matched the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra in terms of charging speed, with both supporting 45 W fast wired charging.

It’s important to note that 45 W is the maximum charging power, which is typically achieved when the device is charging between 0% and 50%. Most smartphones slow down the charging speed once the battery reaches 50%, with an even greater reduction after hitting the 80% mark. This explains why phones often take longer to fully charge.

It’s also crucial to highlight that the iPhone 16 series will only support 45 W charging when used with a compatible charger. Since Apple no longer includes power adapters with iPhones, you’ll need to purchase one separately (either from Apple or other manufacturers) with sufficient power. It may take some time after the release to determine which adapters work best.

During the iPhone 16 launch event, Apple mentioned that the device could go from 0% to 50% charge in about 30 minutes using a 20 W adapter. With a 45 W charger, that time should be significantly reduced.
