The launch includes popular games like Fortnite, Rocket League Sideswipe, and Fall Guys. The company is also collaborating with other developers to bring their games to the Epic Games Store in the future.
Additionally, Epic Games has announced that it will bring its games to AltStore PAL, an independent mobile store that will now be free thanks to a grant provided by Epic. They also plan to expand their games to Aptoide’s iOS store in the EU and ONE Store on Android.
Fortnite returns to iOS more than four years after being removed from the App Store by Apple, following a long legal battle between the two companies. This return is made possible by regulatory changes in the EU, specifically the Digital Markets Act, which requires Apple to allow new competitors.
Tim Sweeney, CEO of Epic Games, stated that “the mobile ecosystem is finally opening up to competition,” expressing gratitude to the European Commission for enabling this launch in the European Union. According to him, this is a significant step forward for developers and consumers, who can now enjoy more competition and options.
The company has provided instructional videos to help users install the Epic Games Store on iOS and Android, though they have pointed out that the process is complex due to barriers imposed by Apple and Google, who have designed a deliberately complicated installation experience.
This launch marks the first time Apple faces a significant competitor challenging its control over the App Store.
