Spotify has announced a new price increase in the United States, the second one in less than a year. The last time the music streaming platform adjusted its rates was in July 2023.
Starting next month, subscribers to the individual plan will pay $12 instead of $11. Duo plan users will see a $2 increase, going from $15 to $17 per month. Those with a family plan will have to pay $20 instead of $17, while the student plan will remain at $6.
In a blog post, Spotify explained that these changes will be reflected in the July billing cycle and justified the increase by stating that it is necessary to continue investing in improvements and innovations in their products, ensuring the best possible experience for users.
User reactions have been mixed. Some feel frustrated because they do not perceive clear benefits following the price increases. They would be willing to pay more if it resulted in new and notable features on the platform. Additionally, there is concern about fair compensation for artists, as many believe they are not being paid adequately.
In light of this situation, some users are considering switching to other music streaming platforms such as Apple Music and YouTube Premium.
