The ChatGPT app will debut on Mac platforms before Windows, despite Microsoft’s massive investment.

The Windows version of ChatGPT is scheduled for release later this year, although a specific date has not been specified.

The year 2024 has witnessed a series of remarkable technological advancements, with one of the most notable being the significant development of artificial intelligence, which is permeating numerous operational domains and raising concerns about the extent of its expansion, posing questions about the security of our jobs and even our very existence as we know it.

Amidst this technological fervor, one of the most notable pieces of news this week is the launch of the new ChatGPT application for computers. With this step, OpenAI aims to expand its reach to all operating systems and break free from its reliance on its website to access artificial intelligence. This launch coincided with the unveiling of GPT-4, which left many impressed by its capabilities.

Thus far, Microsoft and OpenAI have maintained a close relationship, especially following Microsoft’s massive $10 billion investment. This might have led to the anticipation that the ChatGPT application would be initially exclusive to Windows. However, this was not the case.

OpenAI seems to have relegated Windows to a secondary position in its releases.

During the various demonstrations conducted, the application was only showcased in the macOS ecosystem, with no reference made to its future availability on Windows. Initially, ChatGPT Desktop will be available only on macOS, with no specific date for its release on Windows.

So, why isn’t an application backed by a significant investor like Microsoft available on Windows? This question was posed to OpenAI’s CTO, Mira Murati, in an interview, and her response was clear: “we are simply prioritizing where our users are.”

While surprising, this decision may be supported by market studies indicating that the majority of their product’s consumers are within the Apple ecosystem. Windows users will have to wait until the end of the year to download this application, although, of course, they will still have access to the web version.

It is worth noting that while there is currently the Copilot application on Windows to enjoy artificial intelligence, the experience may vary as it is adapted by Microsoft according to its preferences. Additionally, new features often arrive first on ChatGPT and then on Copilot, generating significant interest in accessing ChatGPT through this new application, especially after the impressive demonstrations presented.
