The biometric verification arrives at Google Play and this is how you can activate it

The Google Play Store introduces biometric verification to ensure enhanced security in your purchase transactions, and we’ll explain how to enable this feature.

Now, making purchases on the Google Play Store will be safer than ever thanks to a recent enhancement implemented by the Mountain View team, which is likely already available on your device.

It appears that Google has been communicating via email with Android users to inform them about a change they will soon experience on the app platform: the integration of biometric authentication in all purchase transactions made in the store, if the user so desires.

Although Google Wallet already allowed purchase authorization through biometric authentication, this functionality was not available until now in the Google Play Store.

As explained by Google, once biometric verification is set up, users will be prompted to confirm their identity each time they make a purchase on Google Play, without needing to enter their password.

Here’s how you can activate biometric authentication in the Google Play Store:

This option may not be available for all users at the moment.

The setup process is quite straightforward. Simply access Google Play, click on your profile picture, and select “Settings.”

In the “Purchase authentication” section, which is located approximately halfway down the options, you’ll find the “Biometric verification” option. If this feature is enabled, a switch will appear allowing you to enable biometric verification.

Once you toggle the switch, you’ll be prompted to enter your password to confirm and activate the setting.

Just below this switch, you can adjust the verification frequency, either always, every 30 minutes, or never.

This feature represents a significant advancement in ensuring the security of our purchases on the Google Play Store. However, if you prefer to avoid this type of biometric verification for privacy reasons, you can continue to make your purchases as usual, as this option is disabled by default.
