The platform gathered hundreds of creators in Hollywood to explain how to turn their passion into a paycheck. The key: new payment tools, better connections with brands, and fewer requirements to get started.
Imagine spending hours filming and editing videos, watching your account grow, and having brands start reaching out to you. Sounds great, right? The problem comes when it’s time to get paid: you wait weeks, you’re not sure how much you’ll earn, or you depend on middlemen. TikTok says it wants to change that.
At its Creators Summit in Hollywood, the platform brought together hundreds of people in front of a brightly lit stage. There were no trophies or red carpet, but there was coffee, photos, and plenty of enthusiasm to learn. Hosts Eric Sedeño and Yasmine Sahid kept the energy up for 90 minutes, while TikTok executives, creators, and advertisers shared tips on how to make a living from videos.
The number that explains it all: 2 billion monthly active users. With an audience that size, the money brands are willing to spend is enormous. The question is how that money reaches creators.
TikTok One: the bridge between creators and brands
The platform’s big bet is called TikTok One. It’s a space that directly connects creators with advertisers. To join, you only need 10,000 followers — far fewer than many might imagine.
What can you do there? Create ads for brands to promote however they like, without having to post sponsored content on your own profile. You can also monetize videos you already have by letting TikTok promote them as ads.
Two major updates were announced at the summit:
- One Pay: you get paid directly through the app, in less than 30 days, with TikTok taking no commission.
- OnePlus: an invite-only program for U.S. and Mexican creators with at least 100,000 followers. Brands can easily find them using artificial intelligence.
The ways to make money, explained
TikTok executives stressed that there’s no single path to monetization. Here are the main ones:
1. Creator Rewards Program
You get paid based on how each video performs. The more creative and better produced it is (good lighting, careful editing, right length), the more chances you have to earn.
2. Specialized Rewards Program
Invite-only. If you’re already in the previous program and create high-quality content in categories like film, sports, or learning, you can unlock additional payouts.
3. Brand deals
The classic: a company pays you to promote its product. It’s the most well-known route and, for many, the most lucrative.
Other options include virtual gifts, subscriptions, and TikTok Shop, though the ones above are what the platform highlighted at the event.
“You don’t need millions of followers”
One of the most celebrated voices was that of Vanessa Louise Miller, known on TikTok as DeliciousNess Bakery. She said that when she landed her first deal with a big brand, she was thrilled, but that she now sees things differently:
“I waited too long for that moment. You don’t need millions of followers to get a great brand offer. You can reach out to companies directly. TikTok One has connected me with brands in my own space, and you never know what surprise awaits.”
What this means for you
If you have a small or mid-sized account, the news is encouraging: the requirements to start earning are lower, payments are faster, and brands have more tools to find you. If you already make a living from this, the new features aim to take the most annoying part off your plate: chasing invoices and negotiating payments.
TikTok is no longer just a place to entertain yourself. Little by little, it’s becoming an office where creativity gets paid. The question is no longer whether you can make money on the platform, but how much and how fast.
