Google Launches New AI Feature for Virtual Clothing Try-Ons

Technology continues to amaze us every day. This time, Google has officially unveiled an innovative artificial intelligence tool that lets users try on clothes virtually. The tech giant also announced new price alerts and teased an upcoming feature that will help shoppers discover outfit ideas and room decor inspiration through AI-generated images.

The virtual try-on feature, which is now officially launching after two months of testing, allows users to upload a photo to see how they would look wearing a specific item of clothing.

Starting today, the tool is available in the United States and lets shoppers try on clothes directly through Google’s Shopping Graph, in Search results, Google Shopping, and Google Images.

To use it, users simply select a clothing item and tap the “Try On” icon. They then upload a full-body photo to see a virtual representation of how the garment would look on them. Users can also save the outfits they create and share them with friends.

Until now, Google already offered virtual try-on technology, but it mainly displayed clothes on models with diverse body types. The big difference now is that shoppers can see how the clothing would fit on a virtual version of their own body.

This launch highlights Google’s continued investment in the virtual try-on space. Just last month, for instance, the company rolled out an experimental app called Doppl, which uses AI to show how different outfits might look, helping people refine their personal style. Doppl can also generate AI-powered videos to give users an even more realistic idea of how an outfit would move in real life.

In addition, the new price alert update lets shoppers set the maximum amount they’re willing to pay for an item. Starting today, shoppers in the U.S. can set an alert for a product, specify their preferred size and color, and enter their target price.

“The Shopping Graph includes products and prices from all over the web, so we’ll let you know when there’s a deal that matches your criteria,” said Danielle Buckley, Google’s Director of Consumer Shopping, in an official blog post. “You no longer have to keep checking if that bag you love finally hit the right price—or risk forgetting to look for it again.”

Finally, Google revealed that this fall, a new feature will launch to help shoppers find inspiration for outfits and interior design ideas. For example, users will be able to search for ideas for a flowing green dress for a garden party or browse bedroom design concepts.

Thanks to its visual matching technology, Google will generate a range of options based on the query and show product listings that visually match, pulling from the more than 50 billion items in its Shopping Graph.
