Apple has announced that its AirPods Max headphones will receive a major audio upgrade when connected via the included USB-C cable. An upcoming update will enable 24-bit/48 kHz lossless audio, preserving the original sound quality without compression. Additionally, this technology will also apply to Personalized Spatial Audio, delivering a more immersive and detailed listening experience, according to the company.

With this update, AirPods Max owners will gain access to over 100 million lossless-quality songs on Apple Music, marking a significant leap in audio fidelity.

But the improvements don’t stop there. Apple has also introduced ultra-low latency audio, a feature particularly useful for music producers. Thanks to the USB-C cable, users will be able to mix and edit music with greater precision, taking advantage of Spatial Audio and head tracking. This allows artists to work without worrying about audio quality loss during recording.

Gamers will also benefit from this upgrade, as the reduced audio delay will provide a more synchronized experience in games and interactive apps.

These features will arrive in April as a free firmware update, compatible with iOS 18.4, iPadOS 18.4, and macOS Sequoia 15.4. However, they will only be available for the USB-C version of the AirPods Max, excluding the older Lightning model.

This update reinforces the AirPods Max as premium headphones, not just for music listening but also for content creation and interactive entertainment.
