Generative artificial intelligence (genAI) is rapidly transforming how people and businesses interact with technology. According to a study by the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, Vanderbilt University, and Harvard Kennedy School, its adoption has reached 39.5% in the past two years, significantly surpassing the 20% achieved by the internet and personal computers over a similar period.
As of August this year, 39.4% of Americans aged 18 to 64 had used generative AI tools, with 32% interacting with them at least once a week. In the workplace, 28% of employees have integrated these technologies, and 10.6% use them daily.
Among the most popular applications, ChatGPT leads the adoption of generative AI programs, although only 6.4% of respondents use these tools daily outside of work. Additionally, men are more likely to use them, both at work (+9%) and at home (+7%), compared to women.
The sectors related to management, business, and IT show the highest adoption rates, with over 40% of workers utilizing genAI. However, its presence is also notable among manual laborers and individuals without a college degree, where 20% regularly use these tools.
Impact on Key Sectors
Artificial intelligence is making a significant difference in industries like telecommunications. For instance, an operator in the Asia-Pacific region implemented an AI-driven customer value management system, reducing churn by 10% and increasing cross-sales by 20%.
Indeed, 87% of telecommunications executives surveyed by PYMNTS Intelligence believe that AI has high potential to transform customer relationship management and enhance user experiences.
In the financial sector, adoption is also growing. A total of 78% of chief financial officers (CFOs) plan to expand their use of artificial intelligence in the coming years, recognizing it as a key tool for transforming business models, optimizing operations, and improving customer experiences.
A Future Driven by AI
The speed at which generative AI is being adopted positions it as an indispensable technology for businesses and professionals. Those who integrate these tools into their processes will be better equipped to compete in an increasingly advanced and technologically demanding market, solidifying their leadership in the digital age.
