Walmart completes the acquisition of Vizio for $2.3 billion to expand its advertising business

Walmart has finalized the acquisition of Vizio, a well-known TV manufacturer, aiming to grow its advertising sector. Although the deal was initially announced in February, its completion was delayed due to the review period required by federal regulations.

The transaction, entirely in cash, is valued at $2.3 billion.

This strategic move aims to position Walmart as a leader in connected TV advertising. By integrating Vizio into its Walmart Connect platform, the company seeks to better compete with industry giants like Amazon, Google, and Roku.

The integration will enable Walmart to merge its retail operations with TV hardware, gaining direct access to customer data on viewing habits and purchasing preferences. This information will be used to personalize ads, optimize product offerings, and deliver a more tailored shopping experience. Consequently, Vizio TVs are likely to display a significant number of Walmart product ads. Additionally, the acquisition includes control over Vizio’s free streaming service, WatchFree+.
