The YouTube platform is introducing artificial intelligence technology to detect deepfake content and manage the unauthorized use of creators’ images.
In a recent blog post, YouTube announced the development of new tools aimed at protecting artists and creators.
They are focusing on two key tools for image management. The most notable is advanced technology that will allow creators, actors, musicians, athletes, and anyone else to detect and manage “AI-generated content using their faces on YouTube.”
This tool will make it easier to identify deepfakes using their likenesses, also allowing them to request the removal of such content. This measure follows policy updates that YouTube implemented in July, allowing users to request the removal of AI-generated content imitating their voice or face.
YouTube clarified that anyone who accesses a creator’s content without authorization is violating its terms of service. They also reinforced that all AI-generated content must adhere to the platform’s Community Guidelines.
Regarding their new generative AI tools, such as Dream Screen for Shorts, YouTube mentioned that it has implemented safeguards to prevent the misuse of these tools.
YouTube’s efforts against deepfakes
YouTube is also working to improve its Content ID technology by introducing a system that identifies synthetic voices. This will allow artists and musicians to detect and manage AI-generated content that mimics their voices when singing. YouTube’s partners are currently refining this technology, and a pilot program is expected for next year.
Although no pilot program or release date for the deepfake detection technology has been announced yet, the increasing number of these contents ensures that YouTube’s progress in this area is a positive step in the right direction.
