The richest man in the world faces two major challenges on the Emerald Isle.
Elon Musk is not having a good week. His daughter has accused him of being a hypocritical Christian, an absent father, and a serial cheater. He has been embroiled in legal battles over the custody of his children. His ex-partner, Grimes, claimed that he “cannot distinguish the truth.” And that only covers his personal life.
Musk’s companies are also struggling. Tesla’s stock has significantly dropped. X has lost so many advertisers that Musk decided to sue them, alleging an “illegal boycott.” Additionally, some politicians have accused the platform of inciting racial unrest.
Musk also stirred controversy by declaring that “civil war is inevitable” in the United Kingdom. However, his next confrontation might come from across the Irish Sea.
The Emerald Isle has pointed out two controversial issues with X. One of them is the constant flow of intolerance, lies, and falsehoods flooding the platform.
Irish lawmakers have proposed a solution: holding social media executives personally accountable.
Irish challenges for X
Ireland aspires to become a global leader in the fight against harmful online content.
Its new Prime Minister, Simon Harris, stated that Ireland is “ahead of many, many other European countries” in addressing this issue.
By the end of this year, Harris plans to enforce binding codes accompanied by fines. This week, he also promised that directors would be “personally responsible.”
But these are not the only problems Musk faces in Ireland. The country’s lawmakers have also turned their attention to X’s chatbot, Grok.
The Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC) has taken the case to court.
The Commission claims that X has breached the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
The DPC is also concerned about the data that will be used in the next version of X’s robot. Musk plans to launch Grok 2 this month.
Reports suggest that X has ignored the commission’s requests to delay the launch. The case will return to court in a few days.
This could mean another turbulent week for Elon, but at least he has something to look forward to on Monday: Donald Trump has promised to give him an interview.
