We examine some of NVIDIA’s key AI announcements at GTC, including its new B200 chip and notable partnerships with leading tech companies. Having experienced tremendous and rapid growth in recent months, Nvidia shows no signs of slowing down.
The company unveiled its new AI chip at its GTC event. The B200, or “Blackwell” chip, will be able to complete some tasks 30 times faster than its predecessor, and CEO Jensen Huang also shared a wide range of new software tools at the conference.
Nvidia is currently the third most valuable company in the U.S. This news comes amidst other significant announcements from NVIDIA with its Blackwell platform, which will help tech giants like AWS, Microsoft, Google, Meta, Dell Technologies, and OpenAI accelerate their AI initiatives.
A firm commitment to advancing enterprise AI Nvidia has seen huge advances in AI and generative AI (Gen AI) in recent months, and CEO and founder Jensen Huang announced in 2023 that the company aimed to become the world’s first trillion-dollar semiconductor company.
Currently, stocks continue to rise, and the company was valued at $2 trillion in February 2024. In a time of massive digital demand, Nvidia is committed to leading the charge in high-end chips, having released its H200 chip late last year. This chip is designed to train AI models, helping companies power their AI developments.
Hailed as a major breakthrough in chip technology, the B200 chip reportedly has nearly twice the power of Nvidia’s H100 chip generation, which was used to train some of the world’s most capable large language models (LLMs).
Nvidia’s major customers, including Amazon, Google, Microsoft, and OpenAI, are expected to use the new chip in cloud computing services and their own AI developments. Specifically, the company has also announced notable partnerships with major tech corporations, including Google Cloud to better accelerate AI developments and with SAP to enhance AI adoption in enterprise.
The company is also rolling out a new line of chips for in-vehicle chatbots, which includes leading Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers BYD and Xpeng, utilizing their new chips.
Both electric vehicle companies are investing heavily in expansion efforts to boost their internal AI capabilities, working on technologies like voice assistants to enhance the customer experience.
Other company announcements included Jensen Huang unveiling a new series of chips specifically for creating humanoid robots. In his opening speech at GTC, several of the robots joined him on stage to demonstrate that they will be designed to understand natural language and emulate movements by observing human actions.
“Generative AI is the defining technology of our time,” Jensen Huang said at the conference. “Blackwell GPUs are the engine driving this new industrial revolution. Working with the world’s most dynamic companies, we will make the promise of AI a reality for all industries.”
