Beware of your worlds! A problem has been detected with the Minecraft update for Windows through the Xbox app. Updating the game this way could delete your saved worlds.
It is recommended not to update Minecraft through the Xbox app for now. You can use:
- An alternative launcher: Minecraft Launcher: Run the game directly from the .exe file.
- Repair game services by opening the Xbox app on Windows. Click on your profile picture. Select “Support”. Search for “Game Services Repair Tool”. Click “Start Troubleshooting”.
This will update the game services to version 19.87.13001.0, avoiding the problem. Alternatively, you can download the repair tool from the Microsoft website, run the program to verify the data and download the necessary updates.
This issue only affects the March 2024 update through the Xbox app for PC. It does not affect other platforms or update methods.
What about Minecraft Game Pass?
If you downloaded Minecraft through PC Game Pass, you are likely to be affected. Players who installed the game through the Microsoft Store or the official website should not have any problems.
Future updates?
Microsoft is working on a permanent solution. The next major update, 1.21, is expected to arrive in mid-2024.
