Bluesky continues to grow: the company announced that, as of Friday morning, it had added 3 million new users, bringing its total to over 9 million users.

In other words, the social network’s user base has grown by approximately 50% in the last week, following a Brazilian court’s ban on X (formerly known as Twitter). This move pushed Bluesky to the top of the free app charts for iPhone in Brazil, where it currently ranks second, just behind Meta’s competitor app, Threads.

Along with the latest user data, Bluesky also reassured both new and existing users that video support “will be available soon.”

The platform initially started as a project funded by Twitter to create an open social protocol, but over time it has evolved into an independent startup backed by venture capital, officially opening to the public in February.

In a previous post regarding its growth, Bluesky mentioned that 85% of its new users are from Brazil. The rapid increase in users has occasionally caused technical issues.
