This year begins with momentous changes in technological development, these changes are influencing the routine life of human beings, the way we work, shop, travel and even relate to each other, it seems like a mirage where you have everything in your hands, but at the same time same nothing you have nothing.
But one of the things that artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming is the world of work and at an accelerated pace, automating repetitive tasks and freeing workers to focus on more creative, strategic and high-value activities. This is what artificial intelligence says, we humans don’t say it. However, there is some truth to it, our way of working is evolving so quickly that we haven’t even had time to assimilate it.
Personally, today I am using work tools that I could not have imagined using 5 years ago, but here I am at 56 years old loving that technology that was what inspired me to enter the digital world 30 years ago and with each passing day I am more impressed with technological innovations.
AI is not a substitute for humans
Let’s make it clear, AI is not a substitute for humans, but rather a powerful tool that can complement and enhance our capabilities. The key to a future of successful work with AI lies in collaboration and complementarity between humans and machines.
The main reasons why the future of work needs humans are:
1. Creativity and innovation: AI cannot yet match the human capacity for creativity, innovation, and complex problem solving. Humans are essential for generating new ideas, developing innovative solutions, and adapting to changing environments.
2. Social intelligence and empathy: AI lacks the social intelligence and empathy necessary to understand human emotions, build relationships, and provide high-quality customer service. Humans are irreplaceable in roles that require interaction and understanding of emotions.
3. Ethical decision-making: AI is not equipped to make complex ethical decisions. Humans are needed to establish ethical frameworks for the development and use of AI, and to make responsible decisions in difficult situations.
4. Soft skills: Soft skills such as communication, teamwork, adaptability, and continuous learning ability are becoming increasingly important in the workplace. Humans are the best in these areas, and AI cannot replace them.
In short, AI is not a threat to human work, but rather a tool that can be used to create a more prosperous and equitable future of work. To fully exploit the potential of AI, it is necessary to invest in education and training so that workers can develop the skills needed to work alongside AI.
In addition to the reasons mentioned above, the future of work with AI also requires humans to:
- Supervise and control AI systems: It is essential that humans can supervise the operation of AI to ensure that it is used safely and responsibly.
- Maintain and update AI systems: AI needs to be constantly updated with new data and algorithms so that it can continue to function effectively.
- Develop new AI applications: AI is a technology with enormous potential to be applied in various sectors. Humans are responsible for identifying new opportunities for the use of AI and developing new applications that benefit society.
In conclusion, the future of work with AI is a future where humans and machines work together collaboratively to make the most of the capabilities of both. AI will not replace humans in the workplace, but rather complement and empower them to create a more prosperous, creative, and equitable future of work.
